Wedding photography at The Caledonian Hilton Edinburgh
As a professional reportage wedding photographer Edinburgh is a city that’s such a joy to photograph in and usually full of surprises. An amazing example of this was a winter wedding I photographed at the Caledonian Hilton on Princes Street last year. The photography was going well as always but was about to get even better. Whilst the evening reception was being organised, the guests and I heard fireworks coming from right outside. It was a great fireworks display for St. Andrews day at Edinburgh Castle within arms reach.
As this was a complete surprise to everyone I didn’t have time to setup a tripod to photograph it. We were also not sure how long it would last so it was decided it was worth a shot anyway (excuse the pun) to try and capture this once in a lifetime opportunity with the married couple in the middle of the display. The Scottish weather in November was no surprise though being drizzly and cold. With some quick thinking and using a number of different camera techniques I managed to pull it off and it turned out to be a great finale for their wedding album.
The couple were from Winchester in England, and I bet they were glad they booked Keystone Photography, because they took away some wonderful images including a picture of them standing in front of a spectacular fireworks display at Edinburgh Castle. What more could anyone ask for to celebrate their marriage?
I love reportage photography because you never know what’s around the corner and what will come into the frame as the wedding day unfolds. Reportage is a modern method of wedding photography for capturing those special moments that will be treasured forever.
