Photography for a humanist wedding at the Royal Botanic Garden in Edinburgh and Apex International Hotel

I love Scotland for its beauty, and for wedding photography Edinburgh Botanic Gardens is a special location for taking great wedding photos with lots of colour and landscaped textures to play with. It is a pleasure to photograph weddings anywhere across Scotland but for the bride and groom getting married in the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh it’s certainly an emotional place for everybody attending because of its awe inspiring beauty.

The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) dates back to the 16th century and was the first of four Botanic Gardens that emerged across Scotland, the latter three grew in the 20th century (quite literally!). The garden keepers do an extraordinary job maintaining this special botanical haven to an immaculate standard, and that is mirrored across all the Botanic Gardens throughout Scotland. The others are located in Dawyck (Scottish Borders), Logan (Dumfries & Galloway), and Benmore (Argyll).

The couple had a humanist ceremony under the shade of several tall trees this fine day (Scotland does have its good days contrary to popular belief!). Humanist wedding ceremonies are of particular interest because of the freedom the celebrant gives to the photographer. And because of the weather on this particular day it made for some great portrait photos of the couple in the scenic gardens in reportage and in candid photography. I also managed to get all of the group shots and bridal photos in the outdoors using several great backdrops. I loved making the most of the picturesque surroundings which were in full bloom.

The latter half of the wedding reception and evening event was at the Apex International Hotel in the famous Edinburgh’s Grassmarket. This luxury hotel is a very popular wedding venue because of its location and brilliant views of the drum tower of Edinburgh Castle, especially from the Heights Restaurant where the wedding guests sit down to dine. The balcony makes a great location for some memorable photography with Edinburgh Castle as the backdrop. It also serves some great food which is also a big attraction for food lovers of fine Scottish cuisine.

Keystone Photography covers the entire day as standard (from bride ready through to the evening dances). The couple had guests from all around the world attending their big day so our amazing all-inclusive wedding photography package really suited their requirements. The couple had a live band at night and the evening pictures rounded off the album nicely in a contemporary fashion.
