Creative reportage wedding photography at the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh

When it comes to wedding photography Edinburgh is home to some of the most exciting venues in Scotland. As a wedding venue the Royal College of Physicians Edinburgh is one of those gems in the heart of the city that is breathtaking in its beauty and grandeur and at first glance is understated from the outside. Located on Queen Street opposite Queen Street Gardens (to which they have a key for outdoor photography on request) it also has an outdoor area in the heart of the building which is quite unusual and gives the photographer more choice to be creative.

The couple from London and were looking for an all-day wedding photography package that was packed with goodies as part of the competitive price. They found Keystone Photography, and after some correspondence decided to book us to do the photography for their wedding day.

Their big day started with bridal preparations in an apartment flat nearby to the venue. I captured photos of the bride and bridesmaids getting ready; makeup and hair, fastening up the wedding dress, bridal portraits, and all the usual detail shots that I do as part of the service including bouquet and shoes.

I caught the groom waiting nervously on the steps of The Royal College of Physicians with his best man and groomsmen when I arrived. This is the usual photojournalistic approach of Keystone Photography weddings, to capture events as they happen to make for a natural story of your big day as it unfolds.

The ceremony was held in the Great Hall which has all the atmosphere and elegance you can expect from a prestigious venue. This was followed by a drinks reception in the Victorian New Library. This room works in contrast and is excellent for  creative reportage photography. The cake cutting and first dance was held in the Great Hall and was a fitting end to the spectacular day. It really is a great wedding venue for the creative photographer, with so many different rooms and outdoor areas I was spoiled for choice!
